Your Guide to 4th of July in Mill Creek

By Gevin Frey

Summer hits different in Mill Creek—and the 4th of July is one of the best times to see this town come alive. Whether you’re planning to watch the parade, fire up the grill, or find the perfect picnic spot, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate right here in our community.

But before we dive into the local lineup, let me tell you why this holiday still hits home for me.

I grew up in the tiny town of Hopkins, Michigan—just a few blocks and cornfields wide. Every year, my siblings and I joined the local 4th of July parade, thanks to some creative parenting. One year, my bike was transformed into a cardboard horse, and I pulled a red flyer wagon behind me with a canopy to mimic something straight out of the Oregon Trail. Our parents had a knack for turning parades into memories.

We’d take turns running a lemonade stand in the nearby park, and whatever we earned, we’d spend on handmade crafts from the other vendors. It wasn’t fancy—but it was fun. And it taught me early on what it means to be part of a community.

That’s what I still love about living—and working—in Mill Creek. It’s a place where people show up for one another. Where even a sidewalk parade can feel like something special.
